Τον επερχόμενο Ιούλιο (29 Ιουλίου 2015) ο Μίκης Θεοδωράκης συμπληρώνει 90 χρόνια ζωής και σε Ελλάδα και Υφήλιο ο ρυθμός φέτος είναι ...θεοδωρακικός, καθώς δεκάδες είναι οι εκδηλώσεις τιμής για τον μεγαλύτερο Έλληνα των ημερών μας, από τη Βιέννη μέχρι τo Ελσίνκι και από τη Σορβόννη έως το Άμστερνταμ!
Στη παρούσα στήλη "90 χρόνια Μίκης Θεοδωράκης", επιδιώκουμε να παρουσιάζουμε τις περισσότερες από αυτές, τόσο ενημερωτικά -για τους Έλληνες και άλλους πολίτες της εκάστοτε χώρας- όσο και για να δείξουμε στους αναγνώστες μας το "ύψος" του Μίκη Θεοδωράκη, το οποίο γίνεται όλο και περισσότερο σαφές πως δεν χωρά με τίποτα στα σύνορα της Ελλάδας.
Ιδιαίτερα της Ελλάδας του 2015, όπου οι "υπεύθυνοι" πολιτισμού ψάχνουν τρόπους και επικοινωνιακά ...τρικ να μεταδώσουν στον ελληνικό Λαό τα έργα των μεγάλων μας ποιητών και τη μουσική του Μίκη Θεοδωράκη, τη στιγμή που στη Σορβόννη διοργανώνεται Συμπόσιο πάνω στη μουσική και πολιτική δράση του Μίκη Θεοδωράκη, με τη συμμετοχή των Κώστα Γαβρά (σκηνοθέτης), Angelique Ionato ( τραγουδιστής-τραγουδοποιός), Αστέρης Κούτουλας (συγγραφέας, μεταφραστής και σκηνοθέτης), Βάσω Παπαντωνίου (σοπράνο, πρόεδρος της Εταιρείας για την Ακαδημία Λυρικής Τέχνης «Μαρία Κάλλας», Αθήνα), Arja Saijonmaa ( τραγουδίστρια και ηθοποιός), Μαργαρίτα Θεοδωράκη (κόρη του συνθέτη), Βασίλης Βασιλικός (συγγραφέας) και Βενετσάνου Νένα (τραγουδίστρια-τραγουδοποιός)!

Theodorakis' "Zorbas" Ballet Touring Italy
"I took an old melody, a Cretan dance, and reworked it into an improvisation, always aware that I was going to write a specific composition later. But the final result, the dance to this old melody, was so captivating we decided not to change it." It was a fortunate twist of fate, since Zorbas' Dance from the movie "Zorba the Greek" (1964) – composed as a playback placefolder for shooting – turned into the most famous melody of Greece and the most frequently played piece of the Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis who is going to celebrate his 90th birthday this year on 29 July.
The Hungarian Györ Ballet Company under the direction of Ivan Markò is already celebrating this anniversary: With performances of the ballet Zorbas on a tour across Italy, on 16 January in Foligno, on 17 in Città di Castello, on 21 in Tempio Pausania, on 22 and 23 in Cagliari, on 24 in Sassari and on 25 in Nuoro.

Arne Almorth
Arne Almroth is a graduate of the Royal College of Music in his native Stockholm, Sweden, where he studied voice, piano and conducting. His conducting professor was the legendary Swedish maestro Eric Ericson, with whom Almroth thereafter maintained a professional relationship spanning over more than two decades. Through maestro Ericson and his ensembles, the Swedish Radio Choir and the Eric Ericson Chamber Choir, Almroth worked regularly with many of the most important conductors of our time, such as Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Muti, James Levine, Carlo Maria Giulini and Nikolaus Harnoncourt, which consequently came to profoundly influence his own work as a conductor.
Mr. Almroth has since become a highly influential force in Swedish musical life, and has conducted many orchestras in Scandinavia, including the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, the Gävle Symphony Orchestra and the Nordic Chamber Orchestra. Almroth has conducted at the Dalhalla Opera, one of the leading outdoor opera arenas in Europe, and at the prestigious St. Olav Festival at Stiklestad in Trondheim, Norway, where he served as a regular conductor for eight consecutive seasons. For many years Almroth has also been an advocate of the music of the famous Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis, and in 2005 he conducted the composer´s large oratorio ”Canto General” with Swedish and Greek soloists and the Stockholm Orchestra for an audience of 4000 in a celebration concert of the composer´s 80 year birthday. He is now scheduled to conduct the same work for the composer´s 90th birthday in 2015.

The Canto General ("The great song ') is a comprehensive cycle of poems by the Chilean poet Pablo Neruda, from Mikis Theodorakis set to music twelve poems. After the death of Neruda Theodorakis wrote the "Neruda Eternam Requiem", the only part that contains Greek text elements, all others are sung in Spanish.

From its earliest days, the Wiener Konzerthaus has held the highest cultural aims and artistic mission: «To act as a venue for the cultivation of fine music, as a meeting point for artistic endeavour, as a home for music and a cultural centre for Vienna». It was in this spirit that the Konzerthaus was inaugurated on 19 October 1913 with a festive concert attended by Emperor Francis Joseph I. To mark the occasion, Richard Strauss wrote the «Festliches Präludium op. 61», which was followed by Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. This programme combination, comprising a contemporary work and a masterpiece from the past, served as a model for the Wiener Konzerthaus’s future direction: today, too, an awareness of tradition and the joys of innovation form the main pillars of the Konzerthaus’s artistic identity.

From its earliest days, the Wiener Konzerthaus has held the highest cultural aims and artistic mission: «To act as a venue for the cultivation of fine music, as a meeting point for artistic endeavour, as a home for music and a cultural centre for Vienna». It was in this spirit that the Konzerthaus was inaugurated on 19 October 1913 with a festive concert attended by Emperor Francis Joseph I. To mark the occasion, Richard Strauss wrote the «Festliches Präludium op. 61», which was followed by Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. This programme combination, comprising a contemporary work and a masterpiece from the past, served as a model for the Wiener Konzerthaus’s future direction: today, too, an awareness of tradition and the joys of innovation form the main pillars of the Konzerthaus’s artistic identity.

Great Hall
In the heart of the building (which consists of more than 600 rooms) lies the Konzerthaus’s flagship, the Grosser Saal (Great Hall). Designed with a sense of space and classical balance, its stage has provided the setting for many memorable concerts over the years. In this room, artists, audiences and atmosphere blend into a harmonious triad.
Home to world-famous orchestras, virtuoso soloists, renowned conductors and legendary jazz musicians, the Great Hall can accommodate an audience of 1,800 and offers the perfect venue for a wide variety of musical activity. The Great Hall has emerged from the major renovation with renewed splendour and, despite improvements in technical installation and audience comfort has continued to conserve its original elegance. Its unique atmosphere ideally lends itself to the broad range of artistic activities offered by the Vienna Konzerthaus.
Mozart Hall
Open and relaxing, welcoming and intimate, with its incomparable appeal, the Mozart Hall constitutes a jewel of international musical life. The perfect setting for all types of chamber music, from lute and Lieder recitals to string quartets and chamber orchestras, it can accommodate an audience of around 700 – an ideal size in which to experience the intimacy of chamber music and recital performances.
The Mozart Hall enjoys world-wide acclaim on account of its unique acoustics. This distinction makes it a top favourite with leading ensembles and soloists – as well as a popular venue for recordings. This was taken into account during the major renovation of the building: as with all other rooms in the Konzerthaus, the Mozart Hall is directly linked to a recording studio and a technical control room.
Schubert Hall
With its festive character, the Schubert-Saal presents the perfect model of a music salon, the restored use of the windows follwing the renovation having returned the room to its elegant, airy appearance.
Equipped with around 320 seats, it lends itself to a wide range of chamber-music concerts, as well as to receptions, dinners and lectures. It is home to the popular lunchtime concert series, as well as to events which enable promising young musicians to experience a professional concert stage. Many a musical career has been launched in the Schubert Hall of the Vienna Konzerthaus.

Colloque international organisé par l’Université Paris-Sorbonne et l’Institut de Recherche en Musicologie (CNRS UMR 8223), en partenariat avec MUSIDANSE (EA 1572 – université Paris 8) et le CRAL-EHESS (CNRS UMR 8566), avec le soutien du Centre culturel Hellénique, de la Fondation Hellénique et de l’Institut de Politique Éducative de Grèce.
Argument
Né en 1925, Mikis Theodorakis est sans aucun doute le compositeur grec le plus populaire de son époque et jusqu’à aujourd’hui. Homme engagé de gauche, penseur et poète, il fut aussi ministre et député au Parlement grec, mais surtout activiste pour la paix et pour la démocratie. Son œuvre, son action et sa pensée marquent de façon significative plusieurs combats sociaux et politiques de toute la seconde partie du XXe siècle, ainsi que, sur le plan artistique, la nécessité de fonder une musique contemporaine grecque, à la fois savante et populaire.
Son action, qui commence pendant la Seconde Guerre Mondiale, est ensuite ancrée dans la vie politique interne de la Grèce à travers la Guerre Civile, l’organisation des « Jeunesses Lamprakis », la dictature des Colonels jusqu’au « Mouvement des Citoyens Indépendants Spitha » (« Etincelle ») qu’il a fondé plus récemment. La musique et la politique – les deux engagements complémentaires qui déterminent sa vie et qui reflètent sa personnalité dynamique – sont à l’origine de son aura qui dépasse rapidement les frontières grecques, et le propulsent en tant que la « Voix de la Grèce » dans les monde.
Engagé depuis son plus jeune âge en faveur des grands idéaux humanistes – la Liberté, la Paix, la Démocratie –, il exprime ses idées et incite à la mobilisation et à la révolte aussi bien par ses écrits que par ses compositions musicales. Son engagement s’exprime également dans ses choix artistiques : ainsi Theodorakis défend dans son œuvre l’accès du peuple à des genres poétiques et musicaux perçus comme étant réservés à l’élite sociale. Inversement, il défend aussi l’introduction d’instruments (comme le bouzouki) et de styles populaires (comme le rebetiko) aux genres musicaux savants. Compositeur prolifique, il signe plus d’un millier de mélodies, dont plusieurs devenues extrêmement populaires, et qui fondent le genre très particulier et très fécond du entechno (la « chanson savante-populaire » grecque). Il est également l’auteur d’œuvres symphoniques et de chambre, de plusieurs hymnes et oratorios, de plus de dix ballets, de cinq opéras, et il a composé la musique de plus de cinquante œuvres théâtrales ou cinématographiques.
Emprisonné, torturé, exilé, Mikis Theodorakis a payé dans sa chair nombre de ses engagements, et c’est en France, qui l’accueille en 1970, où il organise son action de résistance, politique et musicale, contre la dictature des Colonels. Auparavant, un premier séjour à Paris dans les années 1950 l’avait notamment conduit au Conservatoire de Paris, dans les classes d’Olivier Messiaen et d’Eugène Bigot. Ainsi Theodorakis entretient-il une relation tout à fait singulière avec la France, tant dans sa vie artistique que militante.
Pour tous ses engagements, militants comme artistiques, Theodorakis, a été et est toujours adulé, admiré, célébré, mais aussi parfois critiqué (de surcroît, au cours des décennies, tantôt par une certaine droite que par une certaine gauche, par une partie du « peuple » ou certaines « élites », etc.).

Malgré sa diversité et sa richesse, force est de constater qu’à ce jour l’œuvre de Mikis Theodorakis a fait très peu l’objet d’études. Ainsi, l’ambition de ce colloque est d’aborder spécifiquement l’œuvre de Mikis Theodorakis en croisant les regards disciplinaires et de stimuler la réflexion critique, longtemps figée face à ce personnage singulièrement complexe, dense et riche.
De même, se plonger à nouveau dans l’œuvre theodorakienne à cette période de crise, et interroger sa valeur diachronique, est sans aucun doute la meilleure façon de rendre hommage au compositeur pour son 90e anniversaire.
